Jenny Gould

Having studied at the University of Birmingham followed by the Guildhall, Jenny is now working freelance as a Composer, Musical Director, Songwriter, Vocal Coach and Pianist. She has worked with children and young people of all ages and abilities for many years, and is currently MD/Composer for Full Circle Children's Theatre Company, and accompanist and sometime conductor and composer for Finchley Children's Music Group Intermediate Choir - the group for whom Songs of Imaginings was written. Jenny is also Resident Composer for the Young Shakespeare Company, a TIE company who take Shakespeare plays into primary schools and theatres as both workshops and full productions. Other compositions for children include a children's musical, The Hunt for William Shakespeare, and a children's opera, Prince Caspian - the latter for Opera Brava. She is about to start work on a second commission for Opera Brava in 2014.
Jenny regularly runs song-writing and composing workshops for schools and music companies, including Opera House Music Projects and Sound Collective. For many years she was Musical Director for Chichester Festival Youth Theatre, and continues to run singing workshops there for children and young people. Other notable companies with whom Jenny has collaborated include The Young Vic, The Arcola and Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival. Jenny works across many different styles of music, from opera through musical theatre to jazz and contemporary song-writing. She regularly performs her own material, and most recently has joined a London-based soul/funk band as keyboard player. For Jenny, variety and pushing the boundaries of the stylistic comfort zone is key!
